I know it's been a while, but I'm still studying the H John Poole books. This time, I read Guardian Joe, which is over 400 pages long.

The point of Guardian Joe is that the US Doctrine since WW1 of using overwhelming firepower and lots of troops may not be the right approach in 4th Generation Warfare. War has progressed beyond the days when the highest bodycount wins. Poole posits that less force and more effective application of that force will help reach the social goals that will bring about a quicker end to combat. As Che Guevarra famously said, "A guerrilla is a social reformer", and that is true.
In the conflict we imagine, what are our social goals? Simple, to be left alone by an occupying force or tyrannical government, while also not having debauchery and communism shoved down our throats.
Another point of the book is that if squad sized units got better trained at true light infantry skills, they could defeat a much larger and more technologically advanced opponent by using stealth and attacking the right targets at the right time. While Poole takes this position to sell more tactical classes to the military, we can use the ideas to train Partisans.
